Youth Work Programs

Youth Work is done on an outreach basis from the academy. We provide training to youth/ community projects in their own facilities. Music programs are agreed at an early stage between youth/ community workers, young people who will particpate and Young DJ Academy staff. The training can happen in a venue of your choice and all that is required is space to work in which has power points to plug in equipment and tables which are in good condition.

We are in a position to support projects with funding applications and we can provide advice and consultation to projects on getting started with music programs.

DJ Skills Programs

  • Beginner DJ Skills: 4 week program (2 hour session each week)
  • Intermediate DJ Skills: 4 week program (2 hour session each week)
  • Advanced DJ Skills: 4 week program (2 hour session each week)

Hip Hop Culture Program

  • Rap workshops: The academy can facilitate rap workshops which explore the medium of rap as a way of expression. These workshops are delivered in conjunction with the modern soul academy.
  • Graffiti workshops: The academy can facilitate graffiti workshops aimed at young people who are interested in art and identity. This urban art form is widely criticised for its illegal status and bad publicity. In these workshops participants are encouraged to learn about the history of this art form and also to explore the creativity within themselves. A key aspect is the legal issues which arise from graffiti art.

D.J’s Take Control Program

This program is aimed at young people who want to learn how to DJ and also want to experience performing as a live DJ. The program is designed to introduce participants to DJ skills and prepare them for a final performance which is planned and organised between youth/ community staff, young people and young dj academy staff. The training includes the introduction to DJ skills workshops as well as promotion and profile development skills. All of these skills lead to a final event which can be performed at a community disco, public event or small scale party within the community.

Radio Broadcasting Program

The academy can facilitate radio based training programs, giving young people an opportunity to broadcast on live radio. This programme includes introduction to a live working studio, planning and running a radio programme, recording audio, interviewing and content management for broadcasts. This is a developmental programme and key to the DJ industry
